ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Mapping Patient Decision-making in Thyroid Cancer," is focused on understanding how patients make choices about their treatment for thyroid cancer. With the number of thyroid cancer cases rising, especially small, early-stage cancers, there are often two treatment options available: a partial removal of the thyroid (lobectomy) or a complete removal (total thyroidectomy). However, some patients may choose the more aggressive treatment even when it's not necessary, which can lead to additional risks and regrets. The trial aims to explore why these decisions are made and to develop a helpful tool called the Decision Navigation Tool, which will guide patients in making choices that reflect their personal values and priorities.
To be eligible for this study, participants need to be over 18 years old and have recently been diagnosed with or suspected of having thyroid cancer. Those with certain conditions, like larger tumors or specific complications, won't be included. Participants can expect to be part of a process that examines how decisions are made, leading to the creation of a model that helps clarify treatment options. This trial is not yet recruiting, but it promises to enhance the understanding of patient experiences and decision-making in thyroid cancer treatment, potentially leading to better outcomes for future patients.
