ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new method to help doctors perform laparoscopic bariatric surgery (a type of weight-loss surgery) for patients who are severely obese. The goal is to use ultrasound, a safe imaging technique that uses sound waves, to help guide the placement of a needle that creates space in the abdomen (called pneumoperitoneum) for the surgery. This method aims to make the procedure safer and easier, particularly for patients with a lot of belly fat, which can make finding the right spot for the needle tricky.
To be eligible for this trial, participants need to be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh more than 100 kg, and have a body mass index (BMI) over 40. They also need to have a layer of fat thicker than 5 cm in their abdomen, as shown by a pre-operative ultrasound. Participants can expect to receive careful monitoring during the procedure, with the use of ultrasound to help ensure the surgery goes smoothly and to reduce the risk of complications. This study is currently recruiting participants, and it’s important for candidates to understand the study and give their consent before joining.
