ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial aims to explore a new method for obtaining tissue samples from unusual lung lesions that are hard to reach using traditional techniques. Researchers are using two advanced imaging tools—Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Radial Endobronchial Ultrasound (R-EBUS)—to guide the biopsy procedure, which helps doctors find and examine these lesions more accurately. Patients who may be eligible for this study are adults aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with a peripheral pulmonary lesion (PPL) through a recent chest scan but could not have it reached with standard bronchoscopy.

Participants in this trial can expect to undergo a procedure where a small camera and ultrasound probe are used to locate the lesion in their lungs. The procedure is performed by an experienced respiratory doctor, and all patients will receive anesthesia for comfort. During the trial, researchers will collect data about patients’ health and track their recovery, including any potential side effects. If you're interested in participating, it's important to note that certain conditions, like severe respiratory issues or being pregnant, would exclude you from joining. Overall, this trial aims to improve the way biopsies are taken from difficult-to-reach lung lesions, potentially leading to better diagnosis and treatment options.

Eligibility criteria

  • The inclusion criteria of this study were as followed: (1)Clinical diagnosis of PPL's by chest computed tomography (CT) within 2 weeks, (2)voluntary participation and written informed consent signed, (3) age ≥ 18 years old, (4) the platelets count and PT, APTT tests were normal, (5) normal ECG and (6) could not detect the lesions through routine diagnostic bronchoscopy. The exclusion criteria of this study were as followed: (1) patients with contraindication of bronchoscopy (such as respiratory failure and acute cardio-cerebrovascular events), (2) patients who refuse biopsy because of physical reasons or personal wishes, (3) patients with the objective reasons (such as abundant blood supply around the lesion) who could not complete the biopsy, (4) patients who are participating in other clinical studies, (5) patients with poor compliance who are believed by the researchers to be unable to cooperate for the completion of the examination and follow-up, and (6) women who were pregnant.
