ClinConnect Summary
The INDIcators trial is a study aimed at understanding the genetic factors that contribute to extreme obesity in children. Researchers are collecting saliva samples and asking families to complete short online questionnaires about their family history, physical traits, and eating behaviors. The study focuses on children aged 0 to 18 who have a body mass index (BMI) that is significantly higher than most of their peers, specifically those in the top 0.5% for their age. Participants will be recruited from medical centers in Germany.
To be eligible for the study, children must be older than 5 years and have a BMI that meets certain high thresholds. Children who have a known medical reason for their obesity will not be included. If you or your child participates, you can expect to have a telemedical consultation with a study doctor who will explain the study details. This research could provide valuable insights into childhood obesity and help improve future treatments.
