ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying why some patients have difficulty stopping the use of breathing machines, a condition known as weaning failure. Researchers will focus on adult patients who have been on a breathing machine for at least 48 hours due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). They will gather information about the patients' health, including their vital signs and other important measurements, before they try to breathe on their own again. Based on the results of this breathing test, patients will be placed into two groups: those who succeed in breathing without assistance and those who do not.
To be eligible for this trial, participants should be adults aged 65 and older who have been on invasive mechanical ventilation for at least two days. However, those with certain conditions, such as neuromuscular diseases or recent major surgeries, cannot take part. If you or a loved one join this study, you can expect a careful assessment of your breathing capabilities and health changes during the weaning process. This trial aims to better understand the challenges some patients face when trying to breathe independently, which could lead to improved care for future patients.
