ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how warming blood before transfusions affects premature infants. Premature babies, especially those born before 34 weeks of pregnancy, often need blood transfusions due to various health issues. One concern with giving them cold blood is that it can lead to problems like low body temperature and other complications. This study aims to compare two groups of premature babies: one group will receive warmed blood, while the other will receive blood at normal cold storage temperature. Researchers want to see if warming the blood helps prevent complications, maintains the baby's health, and ensures that the blood stays safe without causing damage.
To be eligible for the trial, babies must be less than 34 weeks old and require blood transfusions while being treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). However, babies with severe birth defects will not be included in the study. Parents can expect that their child’s health will be closely monitored during the trial, with researchers looking at how well the babies do with both warming methods. This trial is currently active but is not recruiting new participants at the moment.
