ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating two different treatments for a condition called TMJ disc disorder, specifically focused on patients with a type of disc displacement that causes pain and difficulty moving the jaw. The study will compare the effects of injecting a special gel made from chitosan and hyaluronic acid against a standard hyaluronic acid injection into the jaw joint. Both treatments will be given during a procedure called TMJ arthroscopy, which allows doctors to look inside the joint and provide treatment. Researchers will then assess how well each treatment helps with pain, clicking sounds, and the ability to open the mouth.
To participate in this trial, you need to be between 25 and 50 years old and have a specific diagnosis of TMJ internal derangement that has been confirmed by both symptoms and MRI scans. Unfortunately, individuals with certain medical conditions, such as blood or nerve disorders and those who have had previous surgeries on their jaw, will not be eligible. If you decide to join, you’ll be part of a study aimed at finding out which treatment works better for alleviating TMJ-related issues. The trial is currently recruiting participants, and both men and women can take part.
