ClinConnect Summary
The PeLear CCC study, also known as the Proyecto Latino Contra Cancer Colorrectal, is focused on improving understanding and participation of Latino individuals in colorectal cancer (CRC) clinical trials. The study aims to recruit 60 Spanish-speaking Latinos who are 18 years or older and attend Saint Thomas More Church in Chapel Hill. Participants will attend an educational session where they will fill out a questionnaire to assess their knowledge about colorectal cancer and their willingness to join clinical trials. They will then watch three educational videos in Spanish about CRC. After this, their knowledge and willingness will be checked again. About a month later, they will return to complete another questionnaire to discuss their understanding of CRC, their willingness to participate in clinical trials, and any barriers they face in getting involved.
This study is particularly important because colorectal cancer is a leading cause of death in the Latino community, yet many Latinos do not participate in clinical trials, which can limit their access to new treatments. By understanding the challenges that Latinos face, the researchers hope to develop better educational resources and support that can help increase participation in clinical trials. If you or someone you know fits the eligibility criteria and is interested in learning more about colorectal cancer, this study could be a valuable opportunity.
