ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is designed to study the complications that can occur when patients receive a peripheral venous catheter, which is a small tube placed in a vein to give medications or fluids. Researchers want to find out if using a specific method, called a clinical algorithm, to choose the right type of catheter can lead to fewer complications for patients. The trial will look at patients who are admitted to acute care hospital wards and already have a peripheral venous catheter in place.
To be part of this study, participants need to be between the ages of 65 and 74 and must be currently admitted to a hospital ward with a catheter. However, those in gynecology, obstetrics, pediatrics, or the emergency department will not be included. If eligible, participants will have their medical records reviewed to see how their catheter choice affects any complications that arise. This research aims to improve patient care by ensuring the right catheters are used and reducing the risk of problems.
