ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how certain tiny particles in the blood, called extracellular vesicles, might affect blood clotting in newborns with severe congenital heart disease (CHD). Newborns with CHD are at a higher risk of developing blood clots after heart surgery, and the researchers want to learn more about the reasons behind this. To do this, they will collect blood samples from ten newborns who have been diagnosed with severe CHD before birth and are scheduled for surgery at Boston Children's Hospital within their first week of life.
If your baby has been diagnosed with severe CHD and is having surgery soon, they might be eligible to participate in this study. There are no specific exclusions, so as long as your baby fits the inclusion criteria, they can join. Participating in this trial involves providing a blood sample, which will help researchers understand the factors that lead to abnormal clotting in these newborns. This study aims to improve care for babies with CHD by finding better ways to manage their risk of blood clots in the future.
