ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating whether having a family member accompany older adults during their recovery from anesthesia can improve their recovery experience. The goal is to see if this support can reduce anxiety and enhance overall recovery quality after surgery. The researchers believe that having someone familiar present can help older patients feel more comfortable and less anxious during this vulnerable time.
To participate in this study, individuals need to be scheduled for elective surgery that requires general anesthesia, and they should typically be in good health, with a lower risk of complications. Key requirements include being at least 21 years old and having a high school education or higher. Participants will be randomly assigned to either have a family member with them during recovery or not, and they will be asked questions about their recovery and mental state 24 hours after surgery. This study aims to find a simple, cost-free way to improve the surgical experience for older adults, which could have lasting benefits for their overall health and well-being.
