ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called DiOpTB, is focused on improving the detection of tuberculosis (TB), a serious infectious disease. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that in 2022, over 10 million new TB cases were identified, but more than 3 million went unnoticed and untreated. This study aims to enhance the way TB is diagnosed at primary health-care centers in low-resource settings, specifically in Guinea Bissau and Ethiopia. By using better testing methods, such as advanced chest X-rays and different ways of collecting samples, the trial hopes to find more cases of TB earlier so that treatment can start quickly. This could help reduce the spread of the disease and improve recovery outcomes for patients.
To participate in the trial, individuals must be at least 15 years old and show signs of TB, such as a persistent cough or unexplained weight loss. Those currently undergoing TB treatment or with certain serious health issues may not be eligible. Participants can expect to receive improved testing and support throughout the process, contributing to a significant public health effort. The trial is working closely with the health ministries in the participating countries to ensure that any successful strategies can be integrated into national health policies.
