ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new way to improve discussions between patients and doctors about anesthesia options for hip fracture surgery. The goal is to help patients make better-informed decisions about their care. The study will use a simple one-page guide to help doctors communicate more effectively with their patients, along with some brief training for the doctors. This approach will be tested in six hospitals over 27 months to see how well it works.
To participate in this trial, you need to be 50 years or older and planning to have surgery for a hip fracture. However, if you have certain medical conditions that prevent you from safely receiving spinal anesthesia (a type of anesthesia given in the lower back), you won't be able to join the study. If you are eligible, you can expect to engage in better conversations about your anesthesia choices, which can help you feel more confident and involved in your treatment.
