ClinConnect Summary
The EXTUBE Study is an international research project aimed at understanding complications that can happen after removing a breathing tube, which is called extubation. The study focuses on finding out how often these problems occur, what factors might increase the risks, and how patients do after extubation. Researchers will also look at how healthcare teams manage the extubation process, whether it takes place in the operating room, other anesthesia locations, or in the intensive care unit.
To participate in this study, patients need to be adults aged 18 or older who are having their breathing tube removed after surgery or during critical illness. However, those whose extubation is part of stopping life support or having a tracheostomy tube removed will not be included. Participants will be monitored closely during the study, and their experiences will contribute valuable information to improve care for future patients undergoing extubation. If someone is not eligible, the reasons for their exclusion will be shared.
