ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying children who have had their first febrile seizure, which is a seizure that occurs with a fever. The researchers want to understand how often these seizures happen again and whether these children might develop epilepsy later in life. They are particularly focused on Vietnamese children to identify any risk factors that could make these events more likely.
To be eligible for the study, children need to be between 1 month and 8 years old and must have had a first febrile seizure, as defined by specific medical guidelines. Parents or guardians will need to provide written consent for their child to participate. Participants will be followed over time to see if they experience more seizures or develop epilepsy and will receive care and support throughout the study. This information will help doctors understand how to better manage and support children who have febrile seizures.

Eligibility criteria
- Inclusion Criteria:
- • Children had a diagnosis of first febrile seizure based on the definition of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) in 1993. That was a seizure occurring in childhood after one month of age associated with a febrile illness not caused by an infection of the central nervous system, without previous neonatal seizures or a previous unprovoked seizure, and not meeting the criteria for other acute symptomatic seizures. Fever is clinically a temperature of at least 38°C by any method as recorded either in the emergency department, outpatient clinics, or as noted in the medical history, as well as measured upon admission to the inpatient departments.
- • Patients were between 1 month and 8 years of age
- • Agreement from parents with written informed consent
- Exclusion Criteria:
- • Febrile paroxysmal events were atypical for seizures
- • Underlying neurological conditions that increase the likelihood of epilepsy
- • Unwillingness to return for follow-up
