ClinConnect Summary
The PROTECTR Study is looking into how safe and practical it is to remove chest tubes on the same day for patients who have undergone lung surgery using a method called Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS). Chest tubes are often used after surgery to help drain fluid and air from around the lungs, but keeping them in can be uncomfortable. This trial aims to see if taking them out sooner can help patients recover better and feel more comfortable.
To participate in this study, you need to be at least 18 years old and scheduled for a certain type of lung surgery involving the removal of lung segments or lobes. However, if you have serious lung issues, have a cognitive disorder that affects daily living, or if your surgery requires a more invasive approach than planned, you may not be eligible. If you join the study, you can expect to follow a protocol that focuses on your recovery and report how you feel after the procedure. This research is important as it could lead to improved recovery strategies for patients undergoing lung surgery.
