ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying a new approach to help children with focal epilepsy, a type of epilepsy that is often hard to control with medication. The researchers are interested in understanding how the thalamus, a part of the brain, works during seizures. They will do this by using a technique called stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), which involves placing small electrodes in the brain to measure electrical activity. The goal is to identify specific areas in the thalamus that might be involved in seizures, which could lead to better treatment options, including advanced therapies that stimulate the brain.

To participate in this study, children need to be undergoing SEEG as part of their pre-surgical evaluation for epilepsy at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Parents or guardians must provide consent for their child to take part. The researchers aim to enroll 30 participants over three years. During the study, children will undergo two types of stimulation experiments after the SEEG recordings to help the scientists learn more about how the thalamus connects with other parts of the brain. This research could eventually lead to more personalized treatment options for children with epilepsy.
