ClinConnect Summary
The Black Adult Resilience Study is a research project aimed at understanding how daily stressors, especially those related to racism and discrimination, may lead to increased use of alcohol and cannabis among young African American adults. The study will also explore what support systems and coping strategies can help reduce this use. By identifying these factors, the researchers hope to create better prevention and treatment programs that are culturally relevant and effective for this community.
To participate in this study, individuals must identify as Black, African American, or Afro-Caribbean, be proficient in English, and have used alcohol and/or cannabis at least four times in the past month, particularly as a way to cope with stress. Participants should be between the ages of 18 and 30. They can expect to share their experiences and thoughts in a supportive environment, helping to contribute to important research that aims to improve health outcomes for young African American adults. It’s important to note that individuals currently in treatment for substance use disorders or those who have participated in similar studies by the research team are not eligible to join.
