ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking into a condition called ATTR amyloidosis, which can affect the heart and is sometimes discovered during treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). The study involves about 200 patients who have had surgery for CTS at Ålesund Hospital. After their surgery, patients will have a small sample taken from their tissues (a biopsy) to check for ATTR amyloidosis. If the biopsy shows they have this condition, they will be further evaluated to see if they also have heart involvement. Those diagnosed will be closely monitored for up to 10 years with regular heart tests and check-ups.
To participate in this trial, you need to be a man over 50 years old or a woman over 60 years old who has had CTS surgery at Ålesund Hospital. Unfortunately, people who cannot give consent, do not speak Norwegian, have had CTS due to other reasons like injury, or have existing heart conditions at the time of surgery won't be able to join. This study aims to better understand how ATTR amyloidosis affects individuals and improve care for those diagnosed with the condition.
