ClinConnect Summary
The CompuFlo CathCheck clinical trial is studying a new system called Compuflo CathCheck, which aims to determine if it can accurately find the position of an epidural catheter (a small tube placed in the lower back to deliver pain relief) just as well as a traditional method known as an epidurogram. An epidurogram is considered the gold standard for checking if the catheter is in the right place. This trial will compare the results from both methods to see if they agree. Researchers will also look at how well a physical exam can confirm the catheter's placement compared to the results from both the epidurogram and the Compuflo system.
To participate in this study, you need to be an adult aged 18 to 99 who is scheduled to have an epidural for surgery. However, if you cannot receive an epidural, refuse it, are unable to give consent, do not speak English, are pregnant, or have an allergy to a specific medication called bupivacaine, you would not be eligible. If you choose to take part, you will undergo the usual procedure for epidural placement, and your experience will contribute to understanding whether the Compuflo system can be a reliable alternative for checking catheter placement.
