ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is looking at how certain blood markers might differ in older patients who have had surgery for gastrointestinal cancers, particularly focusing on those who experience postoperative delirium (POD) and whether they go on to develop long-term cognitive issues, known as postoperative neurocognitive disorder (pNCD). The goal is to better understand these conditions so that doctors can improve care for elderly patients after surgery.

To be eligible for this study, participants must be at least 65 years old and have undergone surgery involving anesthesia for gastrointestinal cancers. It's important that they can understand and participate in cognitive assessments, so individuals with certain cognitive or psychiatric conditions, like schizophrenia or Alzheimer's disease, will not be included. Those who join the trial can expect to have their blood tested and undergo evaluations of their thinking and memory after their surgery. This study is currently recruiting participants, and their involvement could help advance our understanding of cognitive health in older surgical patients.
