ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how to better predict and identify problems with external ventricular drains (EVDs) in patients who have experienced a brain condition called intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH). When a patient has IVH, fluid can build up in the brain, which may require the placement of an EVD to help drain this excess fluid and relieve pressure. However, sometimes these drains can become blocked or not work properly, which can worsen the patient’s condition. This trial aims to find ways to spot patients who are at higher risk for these issues so that healthcare providers can monitor them closely and intervene if necessary.
To participate in the trial, patients must be over 18 years old, currently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and have had their first EVD placed within the last 12 hours. Additionally, the research team needs access to brain imaging (like a CT scan or MRI) taken within a day before or after the EVD was inserted. Patients can expect to be part of a study that is focused on improving care for those facing serious brain conditions, helping doctors understand how to prevent complications related to EVDs. It’s important to note that certain patients—such as those who are pregnant, in critical condition, or who have specific health issues—will not be eligible to participate.
