ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new way to detect early signs of pressure ulcers, which are skin injuries that can develop when someone is under constant pressure, like when using a face mask for breathing support. The goal is to find specific markers of inflammation on the skin that can help identify people at risk of developing pressure ulcers before they actually occur. This research is important because current methods for assessing the risk of these injuries are not very reliable, and understanding the factors that lead to their development can help improve prevention strategies.
To participate in this trial, you must be between 65 and 74 years old and regularly use oronasal face masks as part of your care for non-invasive ventilation. However, if you have had acute respiratory failure, previously stayed in an intensive care unit (ICU), or currently have a pressure ulcer where measurements will be taken, you would not be eligible. Participants will not need to undergo any invasive procedures; instead, the study will use non-invasive methods to gather information about how individual skin responses may affect the risk of pressure ulcers. Overall, this trial aims to enhance our understanding of how to prevent these common injuries in vulnerable patients.
