ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how certain factors, specifically the presence of appendicoliths (small, calcified deposits in the appendix), affect the success of treating complicated appendicitis with an abscess without immediate surgery. Traditionally, complicated appendicitis, which happens when the appendix becomes inflamed and forms an abscess, usually requires surgery. However, some patients may be treated with antibiotics and drainage of the abscess instead. The trial aims to see how the presence of these appendicoliths influences the effectiveness of this non-surgical approach.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be at least 18 years old and diagnosed with acute appendicitis, showing a peri-appendiceal abscess larger than 2 centimeters on a CT scan. Patients who choose this conservative treatment option instead of immediate surgery can participate. It’s important to note that individuals with certain conditions, like cancer or incomplete medical records, will not be included. If you or someone you know is considering this treatment approach, this trial could help improve future care for patients with complicated appendicitis.
