ClinConnect Summary
The CHAMPS+ trial is studying a new way to help people living with HIV in the Deep South of the United States. The goal is to improve how well they stick to their treatment (called antiretroviral therapy or ART) and to help them achieve viral suppression, which means reducing the amount of the virus in their blood to undetectable levels. This study combines the support of community health workers with mobile health technology, like apps on smartphones, to provide counseling and assistance. They will also focus on helping participants who may not have their virus under control, to reduce the risk of passing HIV to others.
To join the study, participants need to be at least 18 years old, speak and read English, and have a specific level of the HIV virus in their blood (more than 200 copies/mL). They also need to own a smartphone and agree to let researchers access their medical records. Those who have been diagnosed with HIV for less than three months or have certain health conditions are not eligible. If someone joins the trial, they can expect regular support and resources tailored to their needs, as well as the opportunity to help improve healthcare for others in similar situations.
