ClinConnect Summary
The MOTIV8 trial is studying how motivation for treatment develops in young people who are receiving care in a forensic setting, which means they are involved with the juvenile justice system. The researchers want to understand how both the youth and their parents feel about treatment over time, especially when moving from live-in care to outpatient care (where they visit for treatment but don’t stay overnight). They are looking at different factors that might influence motivation, such as personal circumstances and relationships, and how motivation can impact whether young people stick with their treatment and meet their therapy goals.
To participate in this trial, young males aged 14 to 18 who are entering a specific type of therapy called Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) are eligible. However, those who live more than an hour away from the juvenile justice center after their stay cannot take part. Participants can expect to be involved in various assessments and discussions about their treatment motivation and experiences. This study aims to help improve future treatment for young people in similar situations by understanding what helps them stay motivated and engaged in their care.
