ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying halitosis, which is commonly known as bad breath, and aims to find an easier way to diagnose it. Halitosis affects around 30% of people worldwide, and it can be caused by various factors, with gum diseases being the most frequent cause. Currently, diagnosing halitosis often involves a visit to a clinic that can measure certain compounds in your breath called volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs), but not all clinics have the necessary equipment. This study will explore whether breath samples taken at home can still be reliable for diagnosis if analyzed later, up to a week after collection.
To participate in this trial, you need to be an adult, either male or female, and have a social health insurance plan. You should also be seeking help for gum disease and be able to understand the study and consent to it. Unfortunately, if you are pregnant, nursing, or unable to give informed consent, you would not be eligible. If you join, you can expect to provide a breath sample at home and help researchers see if this method could simplify halitosis diagnosis for future patients. This could potentially save time and travel for many people who need this type of evaluation.
