ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Platelet Function and Impella Support," is investigating how the Impella pump, a device that helps the heart pump blood, affects blood platelets in patients experiencing serious heart issues like cardiogenic shock or cardiac arrest. The study aims to understand changes in how platelets work when patients are supported by the Impella pump, which could potentially help identify those at higher risk for complications like bleeding or clotting problems. Researchers will measure specific markers in the blood before the device is implanted and at various times afterward to see how the Impella pump impacts platelet function.
To participate in this study, patients need to be between 18 and 75 years old and diagnosed with severe heart problems that require the Impella device. Those who agree to join the study will provide informed consent and be monitored closely for changes in their platelet function and any related health issues. This research could lead to better ways to identify patients at risk of complications and develop new treatments aimed at improving their outcomes.
