ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effectiveness of a new air extractor system designed to reduce the amount of sevoflurane, a type of anesthetic gas, in the operating room during pediatric surgeries. Sevoflurane is important for putting children to sleep during procedures, but it can also be harmful to the health of anesthesiologists who are exposed to it over time. The trial will compare the levels of sevoflurane in the air when the air extractor is used versus when it is not, by checking the urine of anesthesiologists after they use this gas to put children under anesthesia.
To be eligible for this study, anesthesiologists must work in a pediatric anesthesia room and provide anesthesia using sevoflurane delivered by a mask. Those who use other methods, like intravenous anesthesia, will not be included. Participants can expect to take part in two eight-hour sessions in the induction room—one with the air extractor and one without. After these sessions, a urine sample will be collected to help researchers understand how effective the air extractor is at reducing gas exposure. This trial is a great opportunity to contribute to the safety of healthcare workers in the operating room.
