ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how effective two different doses of oral melatonin are at reducing anxiety in children before they undergo surgery. Many kids feel anxious about surgery because they are unsure of what to expect, which can make the experience more stressful for them. This study aims to see if melatonin, a natural sleep aid, can help calm children down before their procedures, as an alternative to commonly used medications that might have unwanted side effects.
Children aged 4 to 14 years who are scheduled for elective surgeries may be eligible to participate in this trial. To join, they should be generally healthy (classified as ASA physical status I or II) and not have any significant allergies or gastrointestinal disorders. If they take part in the study, participants will receive either a low or high dose of melatonin before their surgery and will be monitored to see how it affects their anxiety levels. This trial is currently looking for volunteers and aims to find a safer and more effective way to help kids feel more relaxed during what can be a scary time.
