ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at patients who have acute complicated appendicitis, particularly those with a specific type of infection called a peri-appendiceal abscess or phlegmon. The goal is to gather data from patients who need emergency surgery to better understand what affects their recovery time in the hospital after the surgery. By analyzing this information, researchers hope to improve treatment strategies for future patients.
To participate in this study, individuals must be at least 18 years old and have been diagnosed with acute appendicitis that shows signs of an abscess or phlegmon on a CT scan. They should also choose to have surgery right away instead of trying other treatments first, like antibiotics. Unfortunately, people under 18, those with a history of certain cancers, or those with more severe infections that have spread throughout the abdomen cannot be part of the trial. Participants can expect to have their medical data reviewed during their hospital stay, which will help inform future treatments for similar conditions.
