ClinConnect Summary
The EXTRA-Meso trial is looking into whether it's possible to conduct a study on exercise therapy for patients with mesothelioma, a type of cancer that affects the lining of the lungs. The main goals are to see if researchers can successfully enroll patients in this exercise study, understand any challenges they face in getting people to join, and find out why some participants might drop out of the study. If you choose to participate, you will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: one will continue with their regular medical care, while the other will follow a tailored 12-week program that includes exercise, nutrition, and wellness support.
To be eligible, you need to have a confirmed diagnosis of mesothelioma and meet certain health criteria, such as having a performance status between 0 and 2 (which means you’re able to carry out daily activities with minimal assistance). Throughout the study, participants will complete questionnaires about their quality of life and fitness at the beginning and end of the program. Additionally, you may be asked to share your thoughts about the study in a short interview, which will be recorded and used anonymously to help improve future research. This trial is currently recruiting participants aged 65 to 74, regardless of gender.
