ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a phenomenon called Pendelluft, which can cause lung damage in patients who are on mechanical ventilation. Pendelluft happens when air moves unevenly in the lungs, increasing pressure in certain areas and potentially harming lung tissue. The researchers want to compare different ways to measure how much stress Pendelluft places on the lungs using a technique called electrical impedance tomography, which helps visualize lung function.
To participate in this study, patients must be between 65 and 74 years old and currently receive invasive mechanical ventilation due to respiratory failure. They should be in the weaning phase, meaning doctors are trying to help them breathe on their own again. Patients who are sedated, unable to breathe on their own, or have certain medical conditions may not be eligible. Participants can expect to undergo specific tests to measure lung function and will be monitored closely throughout the trial. This research aims to improve our understanding of Pendelluft and its effects on lung health, which could lead to better care for patients with respiratory issues.
