ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Measuring Aided Language Development," aims to understand how well certain communication tools work for children with conditions like Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and various speech disorders. The study will specifically look at how these children use aided language measures—methods that help them express themselves using symbols and pictures on devices like iPads. The goal is to improve communication support for these children, making it easier for them to share their thoughts and needs.
To be eligible for this trial, children aged between 1.5 to 2.5 years who have a diagnosis of Down Syndrome or Cerebral Palsy and significant speech difficulties can participate. They should primarily speak English and be able to express at least 25 words using any communication method. Additionally, they need to be able to select picture symbols on the iPad app with at least 50% accuracy. It's important to note that children diagnosed with Autism or those who speak a language other than English will not be included in the study. Participants can expect to engage in activities that help researchers assess their communication abilities, contributing valuable information that could help improve language development tools for children facing similar challenges.
