ClinConnect Summary

The THOR-X trial is designed to study how a personalized exercise program can help adolescents aged 13 to 18 years who are severely obese and facing related health issues like high blood pressure, fatty liver disease, and metabolic problems. The goal is to see if this exercise program can improve their weight, health conditions, and overall quality of life. In addition, the trial aims to understand how exercise interacts with any medications the participants might be taking and how it affects their daily habits.

To be eligible for this study, participants must be living in the Lisbon area, have a body mass index (BMI) that classifies them as severely obese, and have been receiving care at a Pediatric Obesity Clinic for at least six months. They should also have specific health issues related to obesity. Participants will not be able to join if they have serious medical conditions, are unable to exercise, or are pregnant, among other exclusions. Those who take part can expect to engage in a tailored exercise routine and contribute to a broader understanding of how to better support adolescents with obesity. Additionally, the study will create resources for healthcare providers to help them manage this population more effectively.
