ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how quickly the stomach empties after children drink a clear liquid before surgery. Specifically, it is comparing underweight children to those with a healthy weight. Researchers want to find out if underweight children can drink a certain amount of clear fluid just one hour before surgery without any issues, as previous studies mainly focused on normal-weight kids. By understanding these differences, the trial aims to improve fasting guidelines for all children undergoing surgery.
To participate in the trial, children must be between 6 and 14 years old and scheduled for a specific type of surgery that doesn’t involve the gastrointestinal tract. Unfortunately, some children, such as those with certain health conditions or who are having emergency surgeries, cannot join. Participants will drink a small amount of clear liquid before their surgery, and the researchers will monitor how quickly their stomachs empty. This information could help make the preoperative process safer and more comfortable for kids in the future.
