ClinConnect Summary
The M2VA Pain Care Pathway trial is studying a new way to help veterans manage pain and reduce the risk of substance misuse, including opioid misuse. The trial is comparing two approaches: the usual training for case managers and a new method that includes extra support to help them adopt a specific care pathway for treating pain. The main goal is to see if this extra support leads to more veterans receiving better pain care and using non-drug treatments effectively.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be veterans who have recently left military service, have filed a claim for certain musculoskeletal conditions (like back, neck, knee, or shoulder pain), and live near one of the participating sites. Those who join the study can expect to engage in assessments over the course of the trial, and they will be contributing to important research that could improve pain management for veterans. The trial is currently recruiting participants aged 65 and older, and it is open to all genders.
