ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how the stiffness of arteries might be related to kidney problems in patients with sepsis, a serious infection that can affect the whole body. Researchers want to find out if measuring how quickly blood travels through the arteries (using a method called Pulse Wave Velocity) can help predict if a person will develop acute kidney injury during their hospital stay. They are also comparing this method to another technique called shear wave ultrasound elastography to see which one is better at making these predictions.
To participate, you need to be an adult over 18 years old who has been admitted to the critical care unit with sepsis. Unfortunately, children, patients who have had a kidney transplant, or those with severe kidney disease are not eligible for the trial. If you qualify and decide to join, you will undergo tests to measure your arterial stiffness within the first day of your hospital stay. This study aims to improve our understanding of how to better care for patients with sepsis and prevent kidney injury, which is crucial for recovery.
