ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a condition called Barrett's esophagus in people with a specific type of eating disorder known as anorexia nervosa, particularly those who engage in purging behaviors like vomiting or rumination. Barrett's esophagus is a condition that can occur in individuals with long-term acid reflux, and it is important to understand how it relates to eating disorders. The goal of the study is to find out if non-endoscopic testing (a way to check for Barrett's esophagus without needing a camera down the throat) can help identify this condition in patients who have a history of purging.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be between the ages of 18 and 65 and have a history of purging or rumination behaviors for at least five years. They also need to be admitted to the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders and Severe Malnutrition. If someone qualifies and decides to participate, they will undergo non-endoscopic tests to check for Barrett's esophagus. This study is currently recruiting participants and aims to improve our understanding of how eating disorders can affect the esophagus, which is the tube that connects the throat to the stomach.
