ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how well lung ultrasound (LUS) can help us understand changes in the lungs of patients with emphysema, a condition that affects breathing. The researchers want to see how the patterns seen in LUS compare to those found using a special type of X-ray called high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT). They will study patients with different types of emphysema and compare their results with healthy individuals and those without emphysema. This could lead to better ways of detecting and monitoring lung diseases.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be adults aged 65 to 74 with stable or worsening emphysema, or they may be part of a lung cancer screening program. They need to be able to give written consent to take part. During the study, participants will receive a lung ultrasound while lying down, similar to the position used for the CT scans. They will also undergo a breathing test that provides important information about lung health. Overall, this trial aims to improve our understanding of emphysema through non-invasive testing methods.
