ClinConnect Summary
The Music-STAR Trial is a research study that aims to understand how listening to live or recorded music can help reduce stress, pain, and anxiety in patients who are preparing for neurosurgery. The study will involve 132 patients and will look at changes in their vital signs, feelings of pain and anxiety, and certain biological markers before and after they listen to music. Participants will also share their past experiences with music to see if it affects how they respond to the music therapy.
To be eligible for this study, you must be a patient scheduled for a neurosurgical procedure and be between the ages of 18 and 74. Unfortunately, those who cannot give their consent, are deaf or hearing-disabled, do not speak English fluently, or are on certain medical precautions cannot participate. If you join the trial, you will answer some questionnaires about your feelings and experiences, and your health will be monitored before and after the music sessions. This study hopes to find out if music can be a helpful tool in easing the stress of surgery.
