ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how well people who have lost their arm below the elbow can imagine moving their missing limb while using a special type of prosthesis that works with their muscle signals, called a myoelectric prosthesis. The study aims to compare the ability to imagine movement in these amputees with a control group of people without amputations. Researchers want to understand how this ability affects the participants' overall function and awareness of their body position, known as proprioception.
To be eligible for the study, amputees must be using a myoelectric prosthesis for at least six months and have a relatively low level of depression as measured by a specific questionnaire. Control participants need to be between the ages of 18 and 65 and also meet certain mental and literacy requirements. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, but those who join can expect to take part in assessments that will help researchers learn more about the connection between mental imagery and physical function in amputees.
