ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how to help patients with acute brain injuries breathe on their own after being on a ventilator. Many of these patients need help from machines (called invasive mechanical ventilation) to breathe, but some can start breathing without assistance. Unfortunately, patients with brain injuries often have a harder time being taken off the ventilator compared to others in critical care. The trial aims to understand why some patients succeed in breathing on their own, while others fail, and to identify factors that might help predict who will do well.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be 18 years or older, have an acute brain injury, and have been on a ventilator for at least 24 hours. Those who had a tracheostomy (a procedure to help with breathing) before coming to the ICU or are receiving palliative care will not be included. While the trial is not yet recruiting participants, it will provide valuable insights into improving care for patients with acute brain injuries and help develop better strategies for weaning them off ventilation.
