ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how to better understand and diagnose neurocognitive problems, such as confusion and memory issues, that can happen after surgery, especially in older patients. These problems, known as postoperative neurocognitive disorders (PND), can seriously affect a person's quality of life and may lead to longer hospital stays. Researchers want to see if monitoring brain activity during surgery using a technique called electroencephalography (EEG) can help identify patients at risk for these complications. By understanding patterns in brain waves, doctors may be able to take steps to prevent these issues from occurring.
To participate in this trial, you need to be at least 18 years old and scheduled for a non-heart surgery that is considered medium or high risk, where general anesthesia will be used. If you have a history of serious mental illness or are taking certain medications, you may not be eligible. If you join the study, you can expect to have your brain activity monitored during your surgery to help researchers learn more about how to prevent postoperative cognitive problems. Your participation could contribute to important advances in care for patients undergoing surgery.
