ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how the level of magnesium in the blood might affect the success of a treatment called transforaminal epidural steroid injection (TFESE). This treatment is often used for people experiencing back pain due to issues like a herniated disc. TFESE involves injecting steroids and local anesthetics near the affected nerves to reduce inflammation and pain. The researchers want to see if having enough magnesium in the body can improve the effectiveness of this treatment, especially since low magnesium levels can be linked to increased back pain.
To participate in this trial, individuals must be between the ages of 65 and 74 and not have certain medical conditions, like fibromyalgia or metabolic diseases, that could interfere with the study. Participants should not be taking magnesium or calcium supplements and should not have a history of lumbar surgery. Those who qualify will receive the TFESE treatment and will be monitored for three months to see how well it works for them. This study aims to improve pain management strategies for patients suffering from back pain by understanding the role of magnesium better.
