ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on screening children for a genetic condition called familial hypercholesterolemia, which causes very high cholesterol levels and can lead to serious heart problems if not treated. It's important to catch this condition early because it can greatly increase the risk of heart disease later in life. The trial aims to find out if screening all children and teenagers can help identify those at risk, so they can start healthy habits and treatments sooner. Currently, only a small percentage of children with this condition are diagnosed and treated, even though effective treatments are available.
To participate in the trial, children must be between 2 and 18 years old and must fast for at least 8 hours before the screening. Parents will need to give their consent. Children who already have a diagnosis of familial hypercholesterolemia or certain medical conditions, like diabetes or cancer, won't be eligible for this study. Participants can expect a simple blood test to check their cholesterol levels, and if needed, they will receive guidance on healthy eating and possibly medications that are safe and effective. This trial is not yet recruiting participants, but it represents an important step toward better prevention and treatment of heart issues related to high cholesterol in children.
