ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how a special 12-week lifestyle program can help Black adolescent girls at risk for type 2 diabetes and their primary female caregivers improve their health. The program focuses on making healthier choices related to diet and physical activity to reduce the risk factors for diabetes. Researchers want to see if participating in this program leads to positive changes in things like weight and glucose metabolism, which is how the body processes sugar.
To be eligible for the study, girls aged 12 to 18 who identify as Black or African American and have obesity (meaning their body weight is significantly higher than what is considered healthy for their age) can participate. Caregivers who are at least 18 years old, live with the girl, and do most of the cooking at home can also join. Participants will be part of group sessions, where they will learn and practice new lifestyle habits. It’s important to note that this study is only for those who are not pregnant, have not recently participated in weight management programs, and do not have other medical conditions that could affect their participation. Overall, this trial aims to support healthier lifestyles in a fun and engaging way!
