ClinConnect Summary
The ECHO LARYNX study is looking at a new way to examine the throat in children. Traditionally, doctors use a method called nasofibroscopy, which involves inserting a small camera through the nose to look at the larynx (the voice box). While this method is very effective, it can be uncomfortable and hard for kids to tolerate. This study will explore whether laryngeal ultrasound, a less invasive and more comfortable option, can be used instead. The goal is to see if this ultrasound technique can be practical for a larger group of children, both those with throat problems and those without.
To participate in this study, children aged 0 to 15 who are receiving treatment at the pediatric ENT unit at Bordeaux University Hospital may be eligible. However, children who are intubated (having a tube inserted to help with breathing), have serious breathing or heart issues, or whose parents or guardians do not wish to participate will not be included. If your child is selected for the study, they will undergo a laryngeal ultrasound, which is a painless procedure that uses sound waves to create images of the throat. This study is currently not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to gather valuable information that may help improve throat examinations for children in the future.
