ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how children with Fragile X Syndrome, a genetic condition that affects learning and language, perceive sounds and learn to communicate. Researchers want to understand why children with this syndrome might have difficulties with speech and sound sensitivity from a very young age. To do this, they will use different methods like observing how children respond to sounds, taking brain activity measurements, and conducting hearing tests to gather important information about their speech and hearing abilities.

Children between the ages of 6 months and 2 years who are diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome, typically developing children, or those with a history of premature birth may be eligible to participate. To join, children should be able to sit up on their own and speak English at home. It is important to note that participants should not have had any seizures in the past six months and, for certain groups, should not have been born too early (before 32 weeks of pregnancy). Families who participate can expect to help researchers learn more about how these differences in sound perception affect language development, which could lead to better support and interventions for children with Fragile X Syndrome in the future.
