ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new method called intracoronary hypothermia to help protect the heart muscle during a heart attack, specifically in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). When a heart attack occurs, a coronary artery can become completely blocked, which can harm the heart. Although doctors can restore blood flow through a procedure called percutaneous coronary intervention, many patients still face problems like reduced blood flow to the heart, which can lead to further complications. This trial aims to see if cooling the blood during the procedure can help reduce damage to the heart muscle.
To participate in this trial, patients need to have experienced a heart attack with ST-elevation and be within 12 hours of their symptoms starting. They must also be able to give their consent to participate. The trial is currently looking for participants aged between 65 and 75 years old. Those who enroll can expect to undergo the standard heart attack treatment while also receiving the experimental cooling method. This study is important because it hopes to find a safer and more effective way to protect the heart during critical moments of a heart attack.
